Though it's possible one of these updates was for Windows Defender, unless you are specifically receiving a notification from Defender itself it's much more likely that one of the other Windows updates is causing your application to fail. Adding to what Le Boule already stated, I doubt your problem has anything to do with Windows Defender, since you indicated the problems started after the installation of last week's Windows Updates.
